Very fine weather — a summer's day. I did not go to church. Maman is much better. To the concert (black silk dress).
Such an immense quantity of carriages! Enormous crowds. Mademoiselle de Galve was driving in a carriage-and-four with the daughter of Princess Souvoroff — how she pleases me! There is something pleasing, something calm in her expression. How I should like to know her. She must be so nice, and then through her and her mother we might come to know the Duke.
Gioia in grey with her little boy. I saw her several times — she is very heavily made up. Nothing extraordinary to write — ah! yes, I wrote to Paris to Jeannette's to ask for fabric samples for dresses for me and Dina. There were enormous crowds; everyone goes out after the bad weather — one would not think that Nice could contain so many people.
