Overview

A minister (diplomat) of Portugal whom Marie meets at the balls of Ostend in late August and early September 1874. He is never named in the diary, and the Mon Journal t.4 index has no entry for him.

Relevance to Marie

• 28 August 1874: «on présente un ministre du Portugal» at a ball (023.0383).
• 1 September: «J'ai dansé avec ce ministre du Portugal qui nous fût présenté au bal dernier, il danse comme un singe et j'avais beaucoup de peine à aller en mesure» (023.0440).
• 5 September: he is among her cavaliers at the last-but-one ball: «Foster, Merjeewsky, Barkowsky, Chtcherbinine, le ministre du Portugal et de Leiser» (023.0510).

Identity uncertain

We do not know his name. A list of the Portuguese diplomats at Ostend in the summer of 1874 would settle it; none was available to us. If you can identify him, we would be glad to hear from you.
