Sperandio (husband of Lola Gorpintchenko)

Overview

An Italian, «d'Ancone je crois», who married Marie's cousin Marie ("Lola") Gorpintchenko, sister of Pacha (Paul Gorpintchenko) and daughter of Marie's paternal aunt Hélène Gorpintchenko. He is a relative by marriage and a guest of the family, not a servant. • December 1876, San Remo: at the villa Rocca with «la princesse, son amant italien, Hélène, sa fille, Lola et son mari, l'italien Sperandio» (068/1876-12-22, 068.0280: Marie's contemptuous "famille des singes"); on the 23rd «Mon père et Sperandio le mari de la sœur de Pacha» join her box at the Rigoletto (068.0285).
• Summer 1881, Poltava region: «M. Sperandio le mari de la sœur de Pacha est arrivé», from Ancona, who knows the Bruschetti (092/1881-06-11, 092.0109); he stays at Gavronzi with the family, takes part in the quadrille and circus games (092.0114, 0152, 0240, 0245), and on 2 July «ce pauvre Sperandio apporte un manteau» in the family's fussing over Marie's health (092.0161). At Kharkov on 15 July he comes with «sa femme (sœur de Pacha) qui est la femme la plus laide que j'aie jamais vue peut-être, et sa petite fille Margot, trois ans» (092.0264; see MARGOT); «les Sperandio» see them off the next morning (092.0269).
