Show in diary 3 mentions Overview
On 22 January 1877, in Nice, Marie wrote two anonymous letters to herself in printed capitals and posted them to «Mlle Baschkirtseff», an idea Dina gave her (068.0782, 068.0785); she later showed them about as if from an unknown correspondent. The first, «Avec tes robes blanches tu as l'air d'une réclame de candeur ! Quitte le monde !», is signed «Don Fortunato» (068.0783); the second, «Arrivé depuis peu aux Enfers j'y ai rencontré ton âme», is signed «Turcan» (068.0784). Turcan was a murderer executed in Nice in December 1876; she had already threatened Audiffret that «l'âme de Turcan, celui qu'on a exécuté hier pour cause d'assassinat, est allée aux enfers et... qu'elle t'écrira» (068.0065, 15 December 1876). The executed man himself has no separate entry; tag the signature and the «âme de Turcan» here. Not FORTUNATA or FORTUNE (other people).
