Somaglia

Overview

Italian nobles of the Somaglia name whom Marie meets on her travels: the Mon Journal indexes list «Somaglia (M.), Italien» (t.4 pp. 64, 68, 210), «Somaglia (Mme)» (t.4 pp. 263, 303), «Somaglia (comtesse)» (t.5 p. 24), «Somaglia (comte)» (t.5 p. 39) and «Somaglia (princesse)» (t.9 p. 247). The diary gives no first names; the tags join at least a count, a countess and, in Rome in 1876, a princess. (The separate entry COMTESSE_SOMAGLIA was merged into this one.)

Relevance to Marie

• Spa, 1874. In a conversation about the American Clark, who «connaît les Doria, Somaglia, etc.» (022.0172). On 29 July 1874 «Somaglia me regarde toujours» (022.0212). On 18 November 1874 in Nice: «Le célèbre Somaglia est arrivé» (025.0263), and on 29 December she dislikes seeing the Italian who fought with her dog «auprès de l'Italienne Somaglia» (028.0069).
• Nice, winter 1875. At the charity sale in the Square Masséna on 6 February, «il facchino est près de Somaglia et la comtesse del Verme»; the pavilion of Somaglia, del Verme and facchino has the finest dresses (029.0204, 029.0217). On 17 April, in the café full of Russians, «la comtesse Somaglia me regarde beaucoup, sans doute à cause de ma robe longue, à Spa elle me voyait danser en petite fille» (031.0263, 031.0269); 21 April: Somaglia is at the café with «le Doria blanc» (031.0314); 26 April: «le frère de Doria et le comte Somaglia» see Marie's long dress (032.0153).
• Rome, 27 December 1876: Paolo Antonelli skates with «la Somaglia et les autres princesses romaines» (068.0307).
