A Russian prince, husband of the princess Tcherkassky, met by Marie at Schlangenbad in August 1875. He is the Tcherkassky of the Mon Journal t.5 index («Tcherkassy (prince)», pp. 243–244, 246, 254, 257, 261). Marie finds the couple not «du grand monde» but «gentils»; he is a joker who teases the young attaché and, according to Marie, hates his wife after five years of marriage (039.0145).

Schlangenbad, August 1875 (RSR, 2026-10-21)

A Russian prince staying at Schlangenbad with his wife (Princesse Tcherkassky) when Marie joins her mother there: «à l'entrée on me présente à la princesse Tcherkassky, puis le prince m'est présenté. Je ne les crois pas du grand monde» (039.0006, 13 August 1875); the family sups with them (039/1875-08-13). On 14 August he offers to introduce «un attaché militaire russe» and jokes that «demain il y aura un enterrement» (039.0043–0044). The Mon Journal t.5 index spells the name «Tcherkassy (prince), 243-244, 246, 254, 257, 261». Forename not given; not identified with any known Prince Cherkassky. All tags of this file are in carnet 039. See also people/mentioned/TCHERKASSKY.md (one mention, 039/1875-08-26), left separate by the 2026-10-03 owner ruling (OPEN-ITEMS A-40).

Identity uncertain

We do not know which Prince Tcherkassky (Cherkassky) this is: the diary gives no first name, and the family had many branches. If you can identify him, we would be glad to hear from you.
