Sergei Botkin, physician to the Empress of Russia (see Identity below).

Identity

Sergei Petrovich Botkin (1832-1889), Russian physician, a founder of modern Russian clinical medicine and personal physician to Empress Maria Alexandrovna (Wikipedia, "Sergey Botkin"; M. Dolbilov, Kritika 2023, names S. P. Botkin as her doctor). He died at Menton. The empress wintered at San Remo in 1874-75, and Maman went there to consult him: "Maman est allée à San Remo pour consulter Botkine le médecin de l'impératrice" (028.0077, 29 December 1874); "Botkine dit qu'elle est très malade, qu'il faut un traitement long et régulier" (028.0079). In March 1875 Maman lodges at the hôtel de San Remo "pour être près de Botkine" (030.0109).

On 3 March 1875 Marie sees him in court dress at the empress's mass: «Botkine méconnaissable dans son uniforme, ses croix et grands-cordons … de cette femme maladive et pâle, il a fait une femme forte et rose» (030.0124). In August 1876, in Russia, «Botkin est à Pétersbourg» (064.0539; the t.8 index «Botkine (M.) médecin : 364» puts this mention under the doctor). The 1874-75 doctor paragraphs still tagged people/artists/BOTKINE.md (his brother Mikhail, the painter) are to be retagged here (decision of 2026-10-22).
