Diary of Marie Bashkirtseff

The other day Bastien got his foot into Dina's ankle boot with an ease that dismayed us. And he claimed he would get it into my shoes — and the dreadful thing is that he did. Not entirely, not at ease, but he got it in. And he consoled me further by saying he could not keep it there ten minutes. I should think not. He is as small as I am — but he is a man... Besides, his mother tells us that he was so small as a child, so small that people came to see him. And she believes he has grown a great deal since.
