A long argument with Bojidar about blood, race, prejudice, etc. I regret having spent my talent and tired my larynx. Bojidar, my aunt and Dina understood only one thing, namely that she preaches equality with the servants and the peasants. Fools. I do not deny the inheritance of acquired faculties, nor the transmission of physical qualities and defects either, but what I wanted to establish is that the blood is the same. These imbeciles maintained the contrary.
It is evident that if the father is coarse the son may be so too, and if the father is a superior being the son may inherit those qualities. Yes, but it is pointless to go into this here, for I am addressing sensible people of whatever opinion, and not simple souls like those around me. And I wasted two hours arguing about nonsense and saying amusing things, but to them I was preaching equality with the servants. Fools. To paint them for you: they maintained to me, tooth and nail, that blood was quite different and that a nobleman is of a special essence.
And I argued. But I have to spend my energy somehow.
