I change canvases and start over. I go to church — it takes me two hours away from the painting! The started canvas is abandoned; I began again yesterday evening and it seems to be coming.
Je change de toile et recommence. Je vais à l’église, ça me prend deux heures au tableau ! La toile commencée est au rebut, j’ai recommencé hier soir et ça a l’air de venir.
They are, as I said, two young children going to the shelter or to school — they hold each other by the hand, one is not yet six and the other has just turned four. I work in the shelter courtyard, outdoors, well wrapped up.
Ce sont comme j’ai dit deux gamins qui vont à l’asile ou à l’école, ils se tiennent par les mains, l’un n’a pas six ans et l’autre vient d’avoir quatre ans. Je travaille dans la cour de l’asile, en plein air bien enveloppée.
Since my father is very ill and Maman tells me I may regret it later, etc. etc. What if he were to die without our being reconciled, etc. etc.
Comme mon père est très malade et maman me dit que je pourrais regrettrer plus tard etc. etc. S’il allait mourir sans nous réconcilier etc. etc.
In any case, he really could not make me an apology. So I go to his room and say good day to him, and that is all.
En somme, il ne pourrait vraiment pas me faire des excuses. Alors je vais dans sa chambre et je lui dis bonjour et tout est dit.
Dinner at Mme Kanchine’s — few people: the Molinaris, de la Ferrière, and M. Garanay, a dean of I know not what faculty, and others of less importance.
Dîner chez Mme Kanchine, peu de monde, les Molinari, de la Ferrière, et monsieur Garanay, un doyen de je ne sais quelle faculté et d’autres moins importants.
