Diary of Marie Bashkirtseff

I change canvases and start over. I go to church — it takes me two hours away from the painting! The started canvas is abandoned; I began again yesterday evening and it seems to be coming.

They are, as I said, two young children going to the shelter or to school — they hold each other by the hand, one is not yet six and the other has just turned four. I work in the shelter courtyard, outdoors, well wrapped up.

Ce sont comme j'ai dit deux gamins qui vont a l'asile ou a l'ecole...

Since my father is very ill and Maman tells me I may regret it later, etc. etc. What if he were to die without our being reconciled, etc. etc.

In any case, he really could not make me an apology. So I go to his room and say good day to him, and that is all.

Dinner at Mme Kanchine's — few people: the Molinaris, de la Ferrière, and M. Garanay, a dean of I know not what faculty, and others of less importance.
