Pollack comes to lunch, then we take a drive through the flag-bedecked city.1 As for the evening — it is sad: we walk with the Gavinis and Géry, whom I detest.

Pollack vient déjeuner et puis nous allons faire un tour en voiture par la ville pavoisée. Quand au soir, c'est triste, nous allons à pied avec les Gavini et Géry que je déteste.

One might, however, have enjoyed running through the illuminated streets with amusing and youthful companions.

On aurait pourtant pu s'amuser à courir les rues illuminées avec des êtres amusants et jeunes.
