Diary of Marie Bashkirtseff

Julian is summoned to see the gallery, and after visiting it I do as President Grévy1 does — I detain the said Julian and Dubel, his architect (who is also ours), who had come on business. Saint-Amand arrives; this lasts until three o'clock, whereupon we take Julian to the Bois for some milk, and then to the Salon, where we see Gavini and Gaillard — which amounts to little. The Engelhardts to dinner, and in the evening to the hippodrome with Saint-Amand and Gabriel. We return on foot and have tea at our house.

And to be done with it — a detestable week, for I do almost nothing.

Et pour en finir c'est une semaine détestable car je ne fais presque rien.

Notes

President Jules Grévy (1807-1891) was known for keeping long, hospitable lunches.
