Papa spoke with Larderel at Monaco and tells us that this illustrious Florentine was very measured in his expressions about Savine’s conduct — which speaks well of him overall — and very polite. He has always had charming manners. People say he has sunk rather low; Barnola used the word taint. I do not believe there is anything beyond the usual — consorting openly with women of the streets and gambling with anyone; that is already fine enough, but I have kept a soft spot for my family from Florence.Lundi 10 avril 1882 Papa a causé avec Larderel à Monaco et nous dit que cet illustre florentin s’est montré très réservé dans ses expressions sur la conduite de Savine, ce qui fait son éloge en somme, et très poli. Du reste il a toujours eu des façons charmantes. On dit qu’il est tombé assez bas, Barnola a prononcé le mot taré. Je ne crois pas qu’il y ait autre chose que d’habitude; s’afficher avec les filles et jouer avec n’importe qui; c’est déjà joli mais j’ai gardé un faible pour ma famille de Florence.
