Tony came, and as I expressed my discouragement to him, he told me that this proves I am not blind, and he urges me to resume my study, to continue studying.Tony est venu et comme je lui exprimais mon découragement il me dit que cela prouve que je ne suis pas aveugle et m’engage à reprendre mon étude à continuer d’étudier.
Still, at any rate it proves that I know more than before, since I see clearly — but what sadness!
Enfin cela prouve toujours que j’en sais plus qu’avant puisque j’y vois clair mais quelle tristesse !
How I need encouragement! I have made myself a brown cloak with a monk’s hood for the atelier, for when I happen to take a seat near the window, from which comes a hellish draught. So I have a monk’s hood — which has always brought me bad luck. I wept beneath this unlucky hood, and so much that this Amélie Zillhardt, who had come to see if it was not a joke, was quite amazed. I want to make a painting depicting an expulsion of monks.1 So I went to the Capuchins of the rue de la Santé, and the three fathers who remain told me about and showed me the scene of the disaster; I had come to offer hospitality to two of the fathers in Nice. I hope they will not take advantage of the offer.
Comme j’aurais besoin d’encouragement. Je me suis refait un manteau brun à capuchon de moine pour l’atelier quand il m’arrive de prendre une place près de la fenêtre, de laquelle il vient un vent d’enfer. Donc j’ai un capuchon de moine. Ce qui m’a toujours porté malheur. J’ai pleuré sous ce capuchon de malheur et tant que cette Amélie Zillhardt qui était venue voir si ce n’était pas pour rire en fut tout ébahie. Je veux faire un tableau représentant une expulsion de moines. Je suis donc allée chez les Capucins de la rue de la Santé et les trois pères qui restent m’ont raconté et montré les lieux du sinistre, je venais offrir hospitalité à deux pères à Nice. J’espère qu’ils ne profiteront pas de l’offre.
