Monsieur Camille Lefevre, a second-prize winner of the Prix de Rome and currently competing to win the first, recommended to me by Julian, gave me my first lesson in sculpture.

With Mlle Real del Sarte, our four lessons amounted to nothing; we worked perhaps three hours in all. Madame de Bailleul dined with us, and in the evening Gaillard arrived and brought me the issue of La Farandole in which he speaks of my painting.
Avec Mlle Real del Sarte, nos quatre lecons, ce n'etait rien, nous avons travaille peut-etre trois heures en tout. Madame de Bailleul dine avec nous et le soir arrive Gaillard et m'apporte le numero de "La Farandole" ou il parle de mon tableau.
