I was interrupted yesterday by Maman, Dina, Da Costa and Moraes who stayed talking very late.
I took a sea bath and painted in the afternoon. Da Costa has left. This evening a grand concert, Sivori played like an angel, besides I adore the violin. Afterward, a grand ball but I left. There were chic ladies, among others Mme Le Ghait, from Rome. We were to have gone to a soiree at her house... three years ago. But... I am beginning to enjoy Dieppe on the eve of departure... The weather is fine and I abstain from music, beaches, Casino and other stupefying activities of summer towns. One must go to the countryside but without a brake and without lunch at an inn, dine only at nightfall, around half past seven to enjoy the sunset... to be free at last! But with family it is impossible. I already have twelve studies to take away... Maman and Dina stayed at the Casino with Mme de Martellet and her two daughters, society people. I was very elegant this evening, a short little dress of white dotted tulle, always draped in the antique manner. That is to say, behind there is a panel of fabric whose end is turned up so that it makes a double thing and falls straight to the bottom of the skirt. Then there are two panels that start from the bottom of the skirt behind and come to cross in front, cover the hips and join under the back panel. A bodice most of the time without darts, almost without seams, that I adjust on myself, and always a satin sash.
