We are keeping our afternoon model for a fortnight in order to paint a figure study.
I too am attempting one. As I return at five twenty, Jeanne comes almost every day to pose for me until seven.
Here is a copy of Le Pays. For this evening Paul de Cassagnac occupies me enough.
Gavini has just sent tickets for Saturday — pink tickets, from Arnaud's.
I recognise my Cassagnac very well in this evening's paper.
Julian, my confidant. Is that not curious enough? He knew everything and suspected more... he believed me abandoned. And Amélie's monster of an ideal has shoved the Deceased back into my head...
— "No matter — that one will remain; a man of that calibre, surrounded by all that prestige... and you, a child in a manner of speaking, and with your ideas. That one will remain."
Who pays Julian, I wonder?
— "And then, there will always be the conviction that you were the weaker party. You will want to rehabilitate yourself... who knows? If you don't know it, I will tell you — it is called a confrontation, yes, mademoiselle."
Julian is clever, but who pays him?
