This evening: the Passion, and we go to church. I do my hair with a braid and a tiny plain black straw hat — quite bare — that looks like a Marguerite bonnet. I was being coquettish on account of old Princess Ypsilanti, who has her place near ours and at whose house all the Grand Dukes and ambassadors etc. are received.
Ce soir La Passion et nous allons a l'eglise, je me coiffe avec une natte et un petit chapeau de paille noir tout nu qui ressemble a un bonnet de Marguerite. J'etais coquette pour la vieille princesse Ypsilanti qui a sa place pres de nous et chez laquelle vont tous les Grands Ducs et ambassadeurs etc.
