Mme Gavini's sister writes asking her to tell "your charming Russian that I adore her from your descriptions — she may not care, but tell her all the same."
Mme Gavini's affection flatters me because she is an absolutely frank woman — brusque, even — and she is the trumpet of Fame without being anything resembling a malicious tongue.
Thanks to these wretched apartments my painting is neglected and I am annoyed. Here is yet another long piece in Le Pays — it is relatively indifferent to me now; I am used to it.
