We encounter Madame Abaza at the Doctor's, and the whole day is spent together — walks, songs, inspecting the Parisian hats etc. In the evening I go to take tea with the Antonskys. In short, I pass a day like any other...
Madame Abaza confided, in secret, that Madame Rembelinsky had lost her lover, following which she reconciled with her husband, whom she had left for two years — and further that Madame Antonsky, formerly Rembelinsky, had been purchased from Monsieur Rembelinsky by Monsieur Antonsky.
I have read only 42 pages of my Livy (quarto edition). I had intended to read at least 100 a day, so as to finish with the notes and then reread it a second time without note-taking — simply for pleasure.
Maman writes that Multedo came to tell her he had received that letter from the little aunt and does not know what to do.

Notes

The fake letter Marie sent Multedo, signed as from "la petite tante," described in the entry of 5 July 1878.
