We were at church, and then... I spent the whole day with écorchés and anatomy books.# Dimanche 18 novembre 1877 Nous étions à l'église puis... j'ai passé toute la journée avec des écorchés et des livres d'anatomie.
In the evening I made a sketch of my washstand — or rather of Rosalie before the washstand. It holds together and is fairly convincing; the composition pleases me. When I can draw better I shall redo the thing, perhaps even as a painting. No one has ever painted a washstand and a chambermaid without cupids, without flowers, without broken vases, without a feather duster, and so forth.
Le soir j'ai fait un croquis de mon lavabo avec, ou plutôt de Rosalie devant le lavabo. Ça se tient et c'est assez vraisemblable, la mise en scène me plaît; quand je saurai mieux dessiner je referai la chose peut-être même en peinture. On n'a jamais fait un lavabo et une femme de chambre sans amours, sans fleurs, sans vases cassés, sans plumeau etc. etc.
