After my cure and errands, we were with the baroness when some letters were brought. One, already opened and forwarded by Maman — I do not know what I thought on reading the first lines of this black-bordered sheet, but… I was troubled for at least two minutes.
At first I thought it was Alexandre… then I do not know what — only I was terrified.
Read this poor letter — I know I am deeply moved by it, and here is my reply.
This emotion makes me forget that Blanc, a frigate captain and friend of Cassagnac, paid us a very, very long visit.
Poor little Campomarino!
