I go to church (white and silver dress, black hat, new hairstyle — easy, practical, and lasting all day. Half the hair drawn up and tracing on each side the shape of the head without being dressed high, the rest a twist covering the nape; the whole very good). I am rosy.
one has them, and otherwise conceals them.
Let us return to Papa: he bellows and howls already and has begun to drink. He is alone, without affection, alone with his poor dog, poor Renard.
Some time before Collignon's departure, she was admiring Prater with me.
— And Renard? asked Papa.
— Renard too, she said with a cat's smile, but he is a naughty one — he did not recognise me, and so I hold it against him.
Thereupon Papa took the thing personally, as it was intended a little, and began mumbling that he and his poor dog, et cetera, et cetera — and at this she smiled modestly.
It was cold when we went to and returned from the station, having deposited there that precious burden.
I warned Maman and the rest that there will be despotisms and scenes. For the head of the family has already said several times not to sing, not to play, nor walk, nor laugh. He has grown very coarse; in short, per un bel pezzo1 we shall have brawling.
