To the banker, for the departure has been postponed — lack of money. Tomorrow at eleven we shall have some. To the Macarani baths. All day I beg my aunt to pack her things, but as if to tease me, she will not. In the evening, a walk with the Princess, Maman, etc.; then to the Anitchkoffs'. After the walk I went to the Anitchkoffs'; everyone was sitting in the garden, playing cards, drinking. It is the wedding anniversary of the owner of their house — the thirty-eighth year of their marriage! How happy they are! The young married couple danced — oh, how comical they are!
We spoke again of Vienna; I said how much I want to go. Mme Anitchkoff also greatly wishes to go, but her old husband, her children — oh, what a burden!
I ended up weeping. I have never obtained anything without tears, etc. They take pleasure in martyring me. They never say yes or no, but drag things out and exasperate!!
All this will cost me three years of my life, for certain!
The Tolstoys dared say that I was causing them trouble. I? Ha! Oh, truth! Where art thou? I, who since their infamous conduct did not even go into the garden, so as to avoid them. And they dared that!!!!!!
Chestnut brown suits me ravishingly; I should like a brown outfit for winter.
Princess Galitzine is very fond of me; she calls me "dear brigand." Oh! how happy I am when I am loved.
My aunt has become very tender.
