Sandwich

Overview

Sandwich, a dog of the Bashkirtseff household in Nice in October 1874; the Mon Journal t.4 index has «Sandwich, chien, 178». The entry is filed under people but names a pet. It has no connection with the Earl of Sandwich, whom the t.2 index lists separately.

Relevance to Marie

On 14 October 1874, with everyone at the theatre, Marie stays with her mother, sleeping at her aunt's: «à droite dort Sandwich, à gauche sur le lit, Dori; vis-à-vis, sur le canapé, Bagatelle, devant est un plateau contenant du poulet froid et des fruits» (024.0342). So Sandwich is one of the dogs that share her room, with DORI and Bagatelle. No more is known.
