Comte Miloradovitch

Overview

A count of the Miloradovitch family, relative of Marie's suitor Gritz Miloradovitch and a different person from him. Marie: "Gritz nous a fait une courte visite en compagnie de son parent le comte Miloradovitch, aide de camp de l'Empereur, personnage peu intéressant et antipathique" (067.0049). The Mon Journal t.9 index keeps them apart: "Miloradovitch (comte)" (pp. 25, 126, 142, 170) and "Miloradovitch (Gritsi, Gritz)".

Relevance to Marie

At Poltava station on 22 October 1876 he looks after her and travels in her train: "A la gare, nous vîmes le comte Miloradovitch et ce fut lui qui me rendit les quelques petits services là et en wagon" (067.0258); at Iskorwka he jokes that he has stayed awake to see her pass (067.0260-0261). On 4 November Marie recalls that Gritz, back from Vienna, came to the house only once, "l'autre jour avec le comte Miloradovitch" (067.0731), i.e. the visit of 14 October.
