Belona

Overview

A mezzo-soprano of the Italian opera season at the Théâtre municipal of Nice in the winter of 1874-75. The Mon Journal tome 4 index lists her as "Belona, cantatrice". Her first name, career and dates have not been found (web search, 2026-10-21, found nothing under this spelling).

Relevance to Marie

Marie reviews her as a singer. On 9 January 1875 (028.0209-0213) she finds her handsome but spoilt by wearing no make-up and a plain hairstyle, with "une belle voix de mezzo soprano, jeune, fraîche et souple, mais pas assez d'étude", and records that half the house applauded and half booed. She hears her again in Il Barbiere di Siviglia on 27 January 1875.
