Princess Souvoroff (Suvorova), of the Russian princely family descended from Marshal Alexander Suvorov (1729–1800), one of the Russian ladies of Nice society; the tag is used across the diary from 1873.

  • 16 March 1874, at the Détroit: «la princesse Souvoroff était au Détroit, elle me regarde et me suit des yeux» (017.0331).
  • 20 March 1874: «la gracieuse princesse Souvoroff», who had shown Maman friendship all winter at Monte-Carlo, calls, leaves her portrait and makes them promise to visit her new house in Paris: «C'est la femme la plus aimable et la plus charmante» (017.0388).

Who she is: in the Paris years the tag always means this same lady, a Basilewsky by birth. Mme Antonsky tells of «les demoiselles Basilewsky devenues dans la suite princesse Souvoroff, Mmes Doubelt, G…» (081/1878-07-25); she is the sister of Mme Doubelt, who in September 1883 secures Maman an introduction in St Petersburg («Mme Doubelt, sœur de la princesse Souvoroff», 101/1883-09-18), and a cousin of the Mme Basilewsky who comes from St Petersburg in December 1883 («cousine de la princesse Souvoroff, de Mme Doubelt», 102/1883-12-17). She is the lady of the Nice–Monaco train scene, «la Souvoroff à laquelle on a prêté tous les vices» (093/1881-09-09; also 101/1883-08-20, 084/1879-03-31 with Baronne Linsingen, her «complaisante»). The family name does not tell which Suvorova she married; that has not been researched (BASILEWSKY, MME_DOUBELT). The former entries SOUVAROFF and PRINCESS_SOUVOROFF are merged here.
