On 26 August 1883 the news of the earthquake that destroyed Casamicciola on Ischia on 28 July 1883 (en.wikipedia «1883 Casamicciola earthquake»; see Ischia lottery) leads her to challenge divine justice: «Passe pour Sodome et Gomorrhe. Passe encore pour Herculanum et Pompeï car là Dieu punissait ceux qui envoyaient ses apôtres au martyre ... Mais ici. Où sont les crimes atroces et [inommables] d'Ischia ?» (101.0242).
