Overview

Daughter of the comte de Toulouse-Lautrec, whom the family calls «diadia» in Nice in late 1873, and mother of a young marquis who has just inherited a fortune. Tome02 name index: «Toulouse-Lautrec (Séraphine de) fille, 186, 197, 203-206, 215, 255, 262»; «Toulouse-Lautrec (marquis de) (fils de Séraphine), 186, 194»; «Diadia (oncle en russe): Toulouse-Lautrec». The index's «fille» makes her the comte's daughter, but her son is indexed as «marquis de Toulouse-Lautrec», so she may be his daughter-in-law (0.6 daughter). A girlhood friend of Marie's mother: «C'est my mother's friend, - friends of girlhood» (013.0141).

Relevance to Marie

Announced on 20 November 1873, when the comte is to come «avec son petit-fils, le fils de Séraphine, qui vient d'hériter une fortune de quatorze millions et du titre de marquis» (012.0298). Marie, expecting an elegant woman, is let down at the first visit (013.0139: «une tête énorme comme un paquet de foin … elle me fait l'effet d'une petite détestation») and softens a little the same afternoon (013.0141, «je m'habituerai à ses singeries»).
