An English or American lady of Florence «qui a un des salons les plus élégants de Florence», to whom Miss Hall, Marie's American acquaintance at Schlangenbad, offers her a letter of introduction in August 1877 (073.0265). Relevance to Marie
The letter would have opened Florentine society to her: «Cela flatte ma manie» (073.0265). A week later she fears she will not get it: «Miss Smith va voyager cet hiver, mon Américaine l'a appris par la sœur de cette personne», and suspects the sister has warned Miss Hall against her (073.0351, 073.0355).
