Friedlander

The Friedlanders, friends of the Howards in Nice: Dr Friedlander, who entertains the children with conjuring tricks, and his wife, «une très gentille vieille dame» (the Mon Journal indexes do not list them under this name). They appear in Marie's English circle of 1873–74:

• 1873-06-04 (005.0173): Mme Howard has invited the Friedlanders to stay at the villa in her absence; M. Friedlander promises an English governess for Marie. 1873-06-18 (006.0018): they are among those who see the Howards off at the station.
• 1873-10-23 (011.0201): «Mme Friedlander vient voir maman ... Elle est très gentille cette vieille dame.» 1873-11-08 (012.0116): at the Howards', «M. et Mme Friedlander, ce sont de charmants vieux, c'est-à-dire elle, pas lui.»
• 1873-12-25 (014.0213): at the Howards' on Christmas evening, «le docteur Friedlander fit des tours de passe-passe mais les enfants le rendirent confus».
• 1874-12-08 (027.0200): «J'ai parlé à Friedlander» on a morning ride.
