Overview

A Russian stud owner («propriétaire de haras», Mon Journal t.4 index: «Bauvais, propriétaire de haras, 152, 157») who offered Marie a horse in September 1874 through the deacon (the family's priest). He is named only with the horse deal; his first name and nationality are not given. In 024.0114 the name is written «Sauvais», probably a slip for Bauvais.

Relevance to Marie

On 22 September 1874: «Le diacre a fait de nouvelles démarches, et Bauvais, Bauvais a plusieurs haras en Russie, propose des chevaux. Il a surtout un, dit-il, doré, âgé de quatre ans et demi, fougueux et si beau qu'il veut l'offrir à Dagmar, à la grande-duchesse héritière. Mais par amitié pour le diacre il veut bien le vendre et en demande mille roubles» (024.0059; footnote: Dagmar, Grand Duchess Maria Feodorovna, wife of the heir). On 25 September she sends her aunt to the deacon to ask Bauvais to look at a horse at Maurice's the next day and give his opinion (024.0114).
