Arcangelo (model)

Overview

An Italian model of the Académie Julian, the first model Marie drew there in 1877. Mon Journal t.14 index: «Arcangiolo (M.), modèle à l'atelier Julian : 194». The «Arcangelo» of 1877 and the «Arcangiolo» of 1881 are the same man: Marie calls him «notre ancien modèle le premier que j'ai dessiné» (confidence 0.85).

In Marie's diary

• 13 October 1877: she shows Robert-Fleury her drawings, «en commençant par la tête d'Arcangelo» (075.0258), and recalls «comment vous m'aviez fait la tête d'Arcangelo que je vous avais fait recommencer» (075.0288).
• 20 August 1881: after calling on the sculptor Falguière she would be content with «l'atelier où Arcangiolo notre ancien modèle le premier que j'ai dessiné ... est domestique» (093.0005): he now works as the attendant of a sculpture studio.
