Description

An Italian nobleman bearing the marquisate of Campomarino, a town in Molise (Province of Campobasso), southern Italy, historically part of the Kingdom of Naples. He left his visiting card at Marie's lodgings in Naples in March 1877 but was not received in person.

The marquisate was a feudal grant from the Bourbon Kingdom of the Two Sicilies over the Campomarino territory. After Italian Unification (1860–61), noble titles were recognized but feudal privileges abolished.

The son of the duc de San Cesario, president of the Naples Cercle: «le marquis di Campomarino, fils du duc de Sanceso» (069.0527), «un tout petit renard blond à nez énorme et à monocle»; Marie also calls him «San Cesario, c'est-à-dire Campomarino» (069.0528, 069.0560). When his father dies in May 1877 he inherits the ducal title («vive le duc de San Cesario. Il n'y a plus Campomarino», 071.0520). See Duc de San Cesario. His family name has not been traced.
