Overview

The Duke of Grottaminarda (Neapolitan nobility), a friend of Prince Melissano, met by Marie in Naples in April-June 1877 (carnets 070-071). The Mon Journal t.10 index lists him as «Grattaminarda (duc de)», pp.118, 122, 144, 197; Marie spells it Grottaminarda at 070.0620 and elsewhere, Grattaminarda in the t.10 print at the cotillon passage. At the soirée of 15 April «le prince de Melissano amène son ami le duc de Grottaminarda qui demande depuis une semaine d'être présenté, un grand, blond, barbu et louche» (070.0620). During the cotillon «Grattaminarda est si grand qu'en se jetant par terre et étendant les bras tout le monde était à sa portée» (070.0624). He calls on 17 April (070.0679), and on 26 April at the countess Figliasi's ball he was told of Marie's chalk sketch (071.0014). In June he is one of «les trois camarades Larderel, Bernardaki et Grottaminarda» drinking Roederer (071.0542). No first name or date is given; the identification with a particular holder of the title is not attempted here.
