Overview

The father of the diplomat Gabriel Géry (GABRIEL_GERY), a former Second Empire prefect: the Mon Journal indexes name him «Géry (Charles), préfet de la Corse» (t.13, t.14) and «Géry (Charles), préfet» (t.15, t.16), his son being «Géry (Gabriel, fils du précédent), diplomate»; the t.13 index also has «Géry (Mme, épouse du précédent)». No independent source for his career was found (see GABRIEL_GERY).

Relevance to Marie

One of the three elderly Bonapartist friends, with Denis Gavini and Saint-Amand, who are almost daily guests from 1879 to 1884:

  • July 1879: introduced at the Exposition, «un intime du Prince» (Prince Napoléon) (085.0568); «Monsieur Géry (père, bien entendu, le fils est attaché à l'Ambassade à Bruxelles)» (085.0572).
  • 1880: «Le père Géry m'a envoyé quarante francs» for her charity sale (087.0826); his daughter Mme Dupont's miscarriage (087.0884, 088.0113); with Gavini and Saint-Amand, «vos trois pères», he adopts Marie at the Algerians' dinner (089.0619–0632).
  • 1882: owner of a villa at Nice, which he offers the family (094.0197); brings sugared almonds from his granddaughter's christening (095.0283).
  • 1883–1884: «Géry est venu raconter que son fils vient d'être décoré» (097.0346); «Le père Géry dîne ici ce soir. Le fils est reparti pour Constantinople» (102.0545); still at the family dinners in 1884 (103.0552, 105.0105, 106.0187).

Tagging

Split from GABRIEL_GERY on 2026-10-22 (OPEN-ITEMS B-67 (7)). Paragraphs where only the father is meant carry this tag; where both appear, both tags. A bare «Géry» whose referent is unclear (mostly 1880–1884 society lists, when the son was sometimes in Paris) was left on GABRIEL_GERY.
