Webb
Also known as: Webb
Overview
«Webb», a companion of Marie's Paris art circle in 1882. Two mentions: on 14 January 1882, after the comte de Bari's wife has been discussed, «Tony a dit en parlant à Webb que je suis douée comme personne» (094.0175), and on 30 April 1882 she goes «au vernissage avec Villevieille, Alice et Webb. En noir, très gentille» (095.0001, the Salon opening). Mon Journal t.15 index: «Webb (M.) : 5»; the indexer took the name as a man's, but the text gives no sex.
Identity uncertain
We are not sure who this is. The two paragraphs put «Webb» among the painters of Julian's women's studio around Marie (Alice Brisbane, Villevieille, Tony Robert-Fleury as teacher), which matches Miss Webb, the painter who visited Marie's picture in July 1881 (spelled «Weeb», 092.0350) and who writes from Concarneau in October 1883 (101.0587). That is likely but not proved: the Mon Journal t.15 index calls this Webb «M.», and no first name is ever given. If you can identify this person, we would be glad to hear from you.
