Overview

A name Marie quotes once in September 1875. It is probably a spelling variant of Tiste, the comic actor of the Théâtre français at Nice (0.5), whose catch-phrases she often repeats in this period; the Mon Journal t.5–6 indexes have no «Tite» (the t.5–t.13 «Tite-Live» entries concern the historian Livy). The entry is distinct from Livy.

Relevance to Marie

24 September 1875 (Nice): on realising that a man now knows they have taken an interest in him («à présent, c'est une certitude»), she says: «Je suis flambée, comme dit Tite. Tout est découvert» (044.0144). Flambé is slang for ruined, done for. If Tite is Tiste, the phrase would be one of the actor's lines in the repertoire of that season.

Identity uncertain

We have not found who «Tite» is, nor a play with that line. If you can tell, we would be glad to hear from you.
