Overview

A princess of the Romanian Brâncoveanu (Bassaraba de Brancovan) family, seen by Marie at the Opéra on 15 January 1879 in the company of the portrait painter Nélie Jacquemart: «Mlle Jacquemard était avec la princesse Brâncoveanu et Mme Gavini qui la connaît m'a promis de me la faire connaître» (084.0029). The Mon Journal t.12 index has only «Brâncoveanu (princesse) : 198».

Identity uncertain

We are not sure who this is. The princess most prominent in Paris society in 1879 under this name was Rachel (Ralouka) Musurus, the Greek-born pianist married to Prince Grégoire Bassaraba de Brancovan, mother of the poet Anna de Noailles (born in Paris in 1876) (en.wikipedia, «Anna de Noailles»); her musical salon would fit a box at Les Huguenots with a society painter, but nothing in the diary confirms it (0.5). If you can identify this princess, we would be glad to hear from you.
