Mops, Marie's dog, killed at Trifon's hand on her grandfather's orders in July 1875. A dog, not a person.

On 8 July 1875 Marie writes: «Trifon par ordre de monsieur mon grand-père a tué Mops. Ce malheureux chien a été donné à Ambroise pour être soigné, qui le tenait attaché et la pauvre bête a rompu la corde et est accourue ici chez moi et on l'a tuée sans miséricorde» (035.0293); she is furious and finds no way to avenge him (035.0299); two minutes after hearing the news she writes to her mother: «Votre père a fait tuer Mops» (035.0308, 035.0309). A few days later she recalls that the cards had foretold «l'abominable assassinat de Mops» (037.0199).
