At the Opéra on 15 January 1879, the day after Marie's first medal at Julian's, «Mlle Jacquemard était avec la princesse Brâncoveanu et Mme Gavini qui la connaît m'a promis de me la faire connaître. Gavini est allé chez la princesse et a dit à Mlle Jacquemard que j'avais une médaille» (084.0029). An established woman painter is the acquaintance Marie wants at this point.
