Overview

A red-haired Scotswoman (la rousse Écossaise Menzies) whom Marie had met at Ostend through Florence Foster and who accosts her in Nice in October 1874. The Mon Journal t.4 index has «Menzies (M.), Ecossais, 185», describing the person as male, which does not fit Marie's «elle».

Relevance to Marie

Stub replaced. Mlle Meuzier = Menzies is an inference from the second paragraph being tagged with this entry and the Ostend link; the diary does not say so. Index gender error noted, not corrected.

References in Diary

On 26 October 1874, walking in Nice with Paul, Marie sees Menzies on a bench, tries to pass unnoticed, and is caught up: «Accostée ainsi je fus très aimable» (024.0413). Two days later, walking with «Mlle Meuzier» (the same woman, presumably, with Marie's variant spelling), she is the first to bring up the Duke of Hamilton, as at Ostend (025.0019).
