Overview

An Englishwoman at the spa of Soden in August 1878 who walks with the young men Marie calls «les Gans» (the princes) and whom Marie and her party keep away from them: «Paraît l'Anglaise. Marie draws her in a caricature; an anonymous answer to it, sent by post, «a l'air de venir d'une femme et d'une femme anglaise.

Identity uncertain

We are not sure who this woman is. Marie never names her; she guesses she is «une cocotte». The three paragraphs above (082.0013, 082.0076, 082.0084) are all we have, and her identity depends in part on that of «les Gans», which is itself an open question (glossary-owner-questions B-48(1)). Sources checked: carnet 082, 9-13 August 1878. If you can identify her, we would be glad to hear from you.
