Loretta Lambertini
Also known as: Loretta Lambertini, Lambertini
Overview
Countess Loreta (so in the 1877 press; «Loretta» in this project) Lambertini, who after the death of Cardinal Giacomo Antonelli (6 November 1876) sued his brothers for a share of the estate as his natural daughter. Contemporary reports (Papers Past, 1877, quoting the Rome correspondent of The Times) say she had been brought up as the daughter of a Mme Marconi, rested her claim on documents and on the evidence of a midwife, a priest and a servant of the cardinal, and that the heirs meant to attack the documents as forgeries. Mon Journal t.7 index: «Lambertini (Mme), fille du cardinal Antonelli».
Relevance to Marie
The rumour reaches Marie before the cardinal's death: Rossi says «le cardinal a une fille ... mariée à un certain Lambertini» (059.0215-0216), and Baron Visconti that «la fille est archi-placée» (059.0319-0320). In July 1877 she follows the lawsuit, «Le procès Lambertini-Antonelli continue à faire grand bruit» (073/1877-07-27; also 072/1877-07-06), because Pietro Antonelli's share of the inheritance depends on it.
