Overview

La Vie parisienne is an opéra-bouffe by Jacques Offenbach to a libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, first given in five acts at the Théâtre du Palais-Royal on 31 October 1866. A four-act version was revived at the Théâtre des Variétés on 25 September 1873 (Wikipedia, "La Vie parisienne (operetta)").

Not the satirical weekly of the same name (founded 1863), which Marie mentions in 1877–83; that magazine is tagged with people/mentioned/LA_VIE_PARISIENNE.md.

Marie and this work

  • 4 September 1875, Paris (041.0137, 041.0141): asked what the Variétés are playing, Rémy de Gonzalès answers "On donne «La Guigne» mais bientôt on donnera «La Vie parisienne»", then tells her the plot of the piece "que j'ai vue dix fois". The "dix fois" is not documented elsewhere in the diary; she had seen Offenbach at the Variétés in May 1874 (La Périchole, 019.0266).
