Overview

The hotel where Marie, her aunt, Dina and Paul stayed in Vienna during their visit to the 1873 World Exhibition (1–15 August 1873). Not to be confused with the Grand Hôtel in Paris (GRAND_HOTEL_PARIS) or the Nice hotel filed as GRAND_HOTEL.

Identification

Marie writes only «Nous descendîmes au Grand Hôtel, deux chambres au troisième mais il y a l'ascenseur» (007.0311, 1873-08-01) and «une voiture à l'hôtel (Grand Hôtel)» (007.0326). This is probably the Grand Hotel Wien on the Kärntner Ring (0.85): it opened on 10 May 1870 as the first grand hotel on the Ringstraße, with some 300 rooms and steam lifts (Wikipedia, "Grand Hotel Wien"; hotel history leaflet, grandhotelwien.com). The lift Marie notes fits it.
