Overview

On 23 April 1877, at Naples, with her mother ill and the doctor and Doenhoff coming and going, Marie notes: "je fais les caricatures de Zunica, Porcinari, Caracciolo et Santasiglia ! La toile est assez grande et elle contient déjà douze personnes, faites en deux ou trois fois..." (070.0866). It is a single large canvas on which she adds caricature heads of the Neapolitan young men of her circle, a dozen by that evening, in several short sittings. These were the "jeune Naples" who came to the family's rooms in the evenings (070.0541, 070.0817). Whereabouts unknown; no image. She had made caricatures of her Nice circle in 1875 (#Grande_caricature_1875).

Marie and this work

Marie's note shows how she worked at Naples: whenever she could not go out, she painted the visitors. The same week she also drew Melissano life-size in two minutes (#Portraits_Melissano). The picture is mentioned once; the inventory titles it with the first name "Zunica" only because of Marie's phrase.
