The Russian envoy («l'ambassadeur», «le ministre») in Rome in 1876, husband of the Baronne Yxkull. Letters for Maman come addressed «A son Excellence l'ambassadeur de Sa Majesté l'Empereur de toutes les Russies» (053.0292); Marie fears «l'accueil si froid de l'ambassadeur russe» (054.0006). Identification

Very probably Baron Karl Petrovich Ikskul von Hildenbandt (1817–1894), diplomat, whose wife was Varvara Ivanovna (née Lutkovskaya, formerly the wife of the diplomat Nikolai Dmitrievich Glinka-Mavrin): the age gap and the Glinka marriage fit Marie's story. About 0.8; his posting at Rome in 1876 was not found in a list of envoys.
